The History

Alan and the team offer you a warm welcome to The Horse & Jockey Pub and Restaurant at Bentley.

In 1824 the pub was known as "The Hanging Gate" probably in reference to the toll gate on the Bentley Road. In 1952 Sir William Dugdale rode his horse Cloncarrig in the Grand National prompting the name change to The Horse and Jockey.

There is an extensive beer garden (a real sun-trap) where customers can enjoy a pint of real ale while the children explore the garden. The pub boasts a beautiful 18th century barn conversion restaurant with original beams and exposed brickwork. The restaurant is available to hire for weddings and private parties and can be set up for skittle evenings. We are currently serving a Sunday roast and Gastropub food on every other day.

We also have an 18 pitch caravan site with electric hook up available and also a hard standing area should you require this.
